The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse

I’ve been really struggling with how to review The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearce (see picture 2 for synopsis) which I finished this weekend. So today is part review and part random thoughts.

📖

Normally I love a good psychological thriller and there were lots of parts of this one that I did really like. I loved the premise, the setting and I thought she did a brilliant job of building the tension, she had me feeling nervous throughout. I did guess parts of the plot but not all of it and thought she did a really a good job of pulling it all together.

📖

I think the problem was the timing of me reading this one. Last week was a difficult week for women and the news of another young woman being kidnapped and murdered just left me so sad. Reading a book where there is again violence towards women it just made me feel uncomfortable. There are also a few scenes where some of the descriptions were a quite grisly and I found myself wanting to skip past them.

📖

I don’t know how to review this one. I know most people have loved it, I would agree that it was well written but I’m going to say it just wasn’t for me.

📖

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this one, have you read it yet and what did you think?

📖

Have a great day 💕
