The Rose Code by Kate Quinn

Good morning! I’m starting the week with a review of The Rose Code by Kate Quinn which I finished reading this weekend. See picture 2 for synopsis.
📖
You know when you’re really excited about a book, you preorder it and then have to start it as soon as it arrives and you are really expecting to love it... but don’t? Well that’s what happened here with me.
📖
I loved the idea of this one and for the most part I really enjoyed it. I liked the way it moved between the different timelines and it felt like she did a really good job of building the suspense about had happened between the women. I’ve always been interested in the roles women played during the war and haven’t read any historical fiction about the code breakers at Bletchey Park so I was so excited about this one.
📖
Just over halfway through it started to feel like it was a little long, now you’ll know I’m not great with big books so this could be just me, but I found myself wanting to skim. For me though, it was the ending that just didn’t work, I found it a little bit over the top and unrealistic.
📖
Whenever I post a review of a book that I haven’t loved I go and read lots of others to see what everyone else thinks and again it does seem that I’m very much in the minority on this. I loved The Alice Network so I think maybe I went in with my expectations too high.
📖
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this one, have you read it yet and what did you think?
📖
Have a great day 💕
