The Girl With The Louding Voice by Abi Daré

Last week while chatting Desert Island Books with @busymamabookclub she talked about The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Daré and it was so clear how much she loves the book. It had been sat on my TBR for ages, people kept telling me that I would love it but I was never getting round to it.

This weekend I finally picked it up and I get it now. This truly is a brilliant book and I absolutely loved it. (See picture 2 for synopsis). Thank you so much Emily for finally convincing me to read it.

For some reason I thought it would be a hard book to get into but I fell straight into the story and was swept away. Adunni is a wonderful character, probably one of my favourites this year, I loved her spirit she is just so courageous and I thought she is just such a brilliant role model not just for teen girls but for all women. In the face of adversity she never gives up hope.

It really is such a special story, I loved some of the friendships she forms. While some of the subjects are upsetting to read about; Adunni is just fourteen when she is married to a much older man, it is not a depressing story. I found it funny in places and actually really uplifting. It is so compelling, I read it in a day or so because I just had to know what would happen.

I can’t believe I left it so long to read this, I also can’t believe it’s a debut novel. It is certainly one of the best books I’ve read this year.

If you’ve got this one still sat on your TBR I’d urge you to try and squeeze it in before the end of the year, I know it’ll be in my top ten.

Have you read it yet and what did you think?
