The Girl He Used To Know

Today i have been glued to my sofa reading The Girl He Used To Know by Tracey Garvis Graves. I picked this one up on a whim and it turns out it could well end up being one of my favourite reads of 2019!

This is the story of a somewhat unlikely couple who get a second change at their first love. Annika is a beautiful young woman who suffers with social anxiety and struggles to understand those around her. She would rather be surrounded by books (I knew there was a reason I loved her) and enjoy the quiet solitude of playing chess.

When Jonathan joins her chess club he loses his first game and heart to Annika. A beautiful love affair blossoms between the two until a tragedy tears them apart.

This is seriously one of the most beautiful and compelling novels I have ever read. The characters are outstanding. Annika is just so loveable; she's vulnerable and complicated and somehow perfect, I adored her honesty and loved watching her grow throughout. Janice is also a character that I will remember with great affection, everyone should have a Janice in their life!

It stats as a gentle study of the characters and their relationship and then towards the end something happens which had me on the edge of my seat. Definitely one that I would recommend, its an incredible story, it made me smile and it made me cry, it's one that I know I'll remember for a long time.

This is the first Tracey Garvis Graves book that I have read and I loved it so much, I can't wait to get started on her others.
