Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers

I feel like I’ve been on a bit of a roll with some great reads recently. I finished Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers (see picture 2 for synopsis) a couple of days ago and loved it. So many people recommended this one to me and I will now be recommending it to everyone as well.
To be totally honest, after reading the synopsis I wasn’t sure where this book would go and whether I’d actually like it. There’s a really gentle pace to this one and at times it didn’t feel like a lot was happening but there are a couple of brilliant twists along the way which really kept me interested.
I loved the feel of the book, it’s set in the 1950s and there’s a wonderful old fashioned Britishness to it. I found all the characters really interesting and the way that their relationships all developed; I genuinely felt for them all.
As the plot started to unfurl towards the end I just couldn’t put it down, it’s beautiful and tender but also heartbreaking. Small Pleasures is a beautifully written, very clever and unique story. What I love most about it is that I know I’ll be thinking about it for a long time to come.
How does it sound to you, is it one you’ll be reading or have you already read it?
Have a great day 💕
