Miss Benson's Beetle by Rachel Joyce

Do you ever finish a book and then sort of cuddle it by your heart because you loved it so much? Maybe I’m weird but I do and that’s what I did when I finished the wonderful new book by @rachelcjoyceMiss Benson’s Beetle.

Margery Benson has dreamed of discovering the Golden Beetle of New Caledonia since she was a little girl. Now a grown woman, stuck in a dead-end job she suddenly decides that now is the time. She walks out of her job and advertises for an assistant to accompany her.

Enid Pretty is not the assistant Margery had mind but needs must. Together the pair embark on their adventure, a journey of discovery; not just their quest to find the beetle but also to find themselves.

Seriously, I loved every single page of this one. It’s such a wonderful story about friendships and following your dreams. Both characters are amazing, you will love them so much and their friendship is just truly special. They are so alive that they just jumped off the page and I could easily visualise it all.

From start to end Miss Benson’s Beetle is the most perfect book to escape into. It is charming, funny, moving and I thought it was inspiring too. I often found myself thinking I should be a bit more Margery and Enid at times.

Whenever I found myself flying through the pages I had to slow myself down because I never wanted it to end. I loved the ending, I think the last lines were brilliant and thought-provoking. I loved everything about it, it was just a joy to read.

Obviously it’s one I’d highly recommend, I haven’t stopped talking about how much I enjoyed this one since I finished it. It’s one of my favourites this month and definitely a book that I’ll always think of with great affection.

What are you reading and loving at the moment?
