Madam by Phoebe Wynn

There are some books that I bang on and on about because I truly love them. Now I have another one you can expect to hear me harp on about; Madam by @phoebewynnewrites because it is a truly brilliant read.
Madam went straight to the top of my wish list when I saw it compared to Margaret Atwood and then read the synopsis (see picture 2). After hearing Phoebe do a wonderful reading, surrounded by candles, at the @quercusbooks event I was almost certain that I’d love this book.
I finished it a couple of days and I thought it was absolutely outstanding. As the book isn’t published until February, I won’t be doing a full review today. I’ve recorded a video which I’ll share closer to publication.
What I will say is that this is a very exciting debut, I loved her writing and this is such an original story. It’s the first book that I’ve read in a while that’s interrupted my daily life, it’s one of those books that is so wonderfully addictive you can’t wait to pick it up again.
In short it is a brilliant dark, mysterious and clever gothic mystery with a feminist twist. I love the way she built the tension throughout, she held me totally captive, she shocked me a couple of times and it’s honestly lived up to the hype for me. I can’t wait for you to read it.
When I finished reading it my first thought was I hope she writes lots more because this really is an incredible debut. It’s only been a few days since I finished it but the plot and the character Rose are still very much on my mind.
Madam by Phoebe Wynn is published by @quercusbooks on 18 February. Thank you so much for sending me a copy, as always you were so right. I did love it.
What do you think? Does this sound like one you’ll be reading?
